A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE THAT GAVE BIRTH TO CHANGE, POSITIVELY

My name is Natasha Veerasawmy, CEO/Founder of BondedThruCancer and this is my story of how I overcame cancer when I was diagnosed then age 38 on February 13 2014 with Stage 3 Breast Cancer. Such a serious condition that I had a full mastectomy, removal of all of my lymph nodes under my right arm, this was because the cancer had spread and then chemotherapy amongst 2yrs of other treatments. Today, I am overwhelmingly pleased to say I am not having any more treatments, because I overcame the disease 100%. You can too.

Whilst going through chemotherapy at the time, I saw many people at their hospital appointments alone for one reason or another. I became concerned and wondered how many were able to get through such a hard time alone. Where are the family members or friends to support them at such a critical moment in their journey fighting for their life?

I started to question some of the patients that were having chemotherapy with me at the time. I found out some were going through other challenges besides the cancer treatment and that included domestic abuse, some outlived their children, others just wanted anyone willing to attend the appointments with them. Understanding the severity of the level of support that is necessary I made a new firm decision to bring about change to many people now and in the future.

It was then that BondedThruCancer was born, and whilst on my hospital bed an organisation that would uniquely help everyone in the same situation as me, with extend support to them and their loved ones.

WHY CHOOSE US

September 26, 2014, BondedThruCancer's Buddy System was launched, where Our Buddy/Volunteers go out to meet with the diagnosed person at the hospital to sit with them through their appointments, scans, most importantly chemotherapy.

I say chemotherapy is paramount to me because I knew for me to live through chemotherapy and survive, I had to eat. I went and sourced restaurants and cafes in different areas that will give a free or discounted meal to the diagnosed patient and the BondedThruCancer Volunteer.

Then to conclude the day, we assist the diagnosed patient with their travels home. This excellent initiative forms part and parcel of our core values, one of our many initiatives that have been demonstrated over the years and touched many countless lives positively.
